Questions and answers

Everything people ask before and after installing Redible. If your question is not here, write to support@redible.co.

Getting started

What is Redible?
An app for immersive reading and listening in foreign languages. You read a book on screen, or listen to it with the screen off, and the support — hints, translations, an AI you can ask out loud — stays available either way.
Do I have to listen, or can I just read?
No, and neither mode is the lesser one. Reading and listening are two ways into the same book, and the support is the same in both. Some chapters go better on screen; others go better in your ears. Listening often pulls you in harder — walking the dog or on a treadmill, nothing else is competing for your attention, and the story keeps its own pace instead of stopping every time you look up.
What level do I need?
It helps most once you can follow a simple sentence in the language. Below that you will lean on the support for almost every line — that works, but slowly. The amount of help scales to where you are: earlier on you get more of the sentence explained, further along you get the one word that was actually in the way.
Is this a language course?
No. There are no lessons, exercises or streaks. You read books, and the app makes them possible to understand.

Books and languages

Which languages can I read in?
English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, with new books added regularly.
Can I upload my own EPUB?
No. Redible works with its own library, where every book is narrated and prepared so that hints and translations line up sentence by sentence. That preparation cannot be applied to an arbitrary uploaded file.
Are the books complete?
Yes. You get the book, narrated from the first page to the last — not a sample, an excerpt or a summary.
How big is the library?
Every book has to be narrated and prepared before it can go in, so the catalog grows steadily rather than all at once. What matters is that everything in it comes with the full set of support, not a subset.

Narration and playback

Is the narration a person or a computer?
It is synthesized, chosen and tuned to sound natural and expressive rather than like the text-to-speech built into your phone. It is not a human narrator, and we do not claim it is.
Does the audio keep playing in the background?
Yes, with lock-screen controls, so you can put the phone away and keep listening.
Does it work offline?
Books and audio you have downloaded work offline. Features that need the network — AI answers, for example — do not.
Can I change the speed?
Yes, and separately for the book and for the support voice. You can slow a difficult chapter down while explanations still come at full speed.
Does my place sync between devices?
Yes, your position is saved and continues across your devices.

Support while you read

What exactly is a hint?
A short card on the sentence you are reading that explains the part that stopped you, at a depth matched to your level, in context rather than as a dictionary entry.
What does Auto mode do?
It adjusts how often support appears, how much translation comes with it and how fast the narration runs, based on how you are doing in that particular book. You can turn it off and set everything by hand.
What is Sandwich mode?
A listening mode that plays the original sentence, then the same sentence in your language, then the original again. The second pass is usually where it lands.
Can I get the whole sentence translated?
Yes, on request, at any point.

Asking questions

What can I ask the AI?
What a word meant, why a character did something, what happened in a passage you missed. Pick one of the suggested questions or ask your own.
Can I ask by voice while listening?
Yes. In Hands-Free mode you ask out loud, hear the answer in the same voice-driven flow, and the book picks up where it left off — the screen stays dark.
Are the answers always right?
No. AI-generated explanations and translations can contain errors, and Redible is a reading companion rather than a replacement for a teacher or a professional translation.

Price and account

How much does it cost?
Redible is free to start, with a limited trial of the AI features. Premium unlocks full-book narration, support audio, offline downloads and continued access to AI.
How do I cancel a subscription?
In the subscription settings of your Apple Account. Deleting your Redible account does not cancel an App Store subscription — the two are handled separately.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile, then Delete Account. If you cannot open the app, write to support@redible.co from the address on the account. Details are on the account deletion page.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad. An Android version is in development.
